Game 2 - Scott County (KY) vs. Dunbar (FL) - 43 to 41

This game looked like it was going to be a runaway win for the team from KY; they came out fast and hit everything the shot.

They finished the 1st quarter with a 13 to 2 lead and continued their dominance in the 2nd quarter with the hot shooting and pressure defense to go into the half with a 24 to 7 lead.

Dunbar which had a team full of athletes just didn’t seem to be able to turn all that athleticism to on court success in the 1st half.

Tyler Portwood and Cameron Hundley lead Scott County in the half with 12 points and 6 points respectively.

The 2nd half was a completely different game with Scott County coming out and not shooting as well in the 1st half.

City of Palms Classic Day 1 Helen Cox, LA vs. John Carroll, MD

Posted by grassrootsballin on December 19, 2007

Game 1- Helen Cox (LA) vs. John Carroll (MD) - 53 to 41

This game was a chance for people to see Greg Monroe (Helen Cox, LA) considered by some as the #1 ranked player in the country.

He came out in the 1st quarter and scored the first six points for Cox and then decided he would just go through the motions the rest of the game.

He finished with 7 points and 6 rebounds in the opening game. Even with him not performing to his capabilities the rest of the team was able to step up their games to get the win.

The leading scorer for Cox was junior Taj Givens who had a real eye catching performance finishing with 17 points and 4 rebounds.

The John Carroll Patriots from Maryland used a tough defense to slow down Monroe but just didn’t have an enough offensive fire power to earn the victory.

Isaiah Philmore a junior combo forward had a nice game on both ends of the floor finishing with 18 points and 8 rebounds to lead John Carroll.

He is a solid player that plays hard the whole time he is out there and with some work on the wing could end up being a high major 3 or 4.

The overall difference in this game was Helen Cox, LA pressure defense which lead to 26 John Carroll turnovers.
