2008 City of Palms Classic All-Tournament Team

The 36th annual City of Palms Classic wrapped up on Tuesday, after which the all-tournament team was announced. It was no surprise that super sophomore Austin Rivers (Winter Park, FL) who has committed to Florid, was named tournament MVP. He helped lead his team to a 3rd place finish after knocking off nationally ranked Duncanville, TX and Westchester, CA.

2008 City of Palms Classic Final

The 36th annual City of Palms Classic wrapped up today in Ft. Myers, FL. In the third place game the Cinderella team Winter Park, FL defeated Wheeler, GA 91 to 87. Super sophomore Austin Rivers continued his outstanding tournament finishing with 46 points in the win. The championship matched top five teams #1 Mater Dei, CA vs. #4 St. Patrick, NJ in the end Mater Dei, CA just had to much size inside beating St. Patrick 52 to 45.

I will be posting other information from this event in the next few hours. Once again #1 Mater Dei (CA) wins the 2008 City of Palms Classic Title.

2009 National High School Invitational (April 3-5)

ESPN RISE ANNOUNCES NEW HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT:  “NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL INVITATIONAL” APRIL 3 – 5, 2009   Eight Boys and Four Girls Teams – 10 Games Live On ESPN, ESPN 2 and ESPNU

ESPN RISE, in conjunction with Paragon Marketing Group, has developed a new post-season boys and girls high school basketball tournament called the “National High School Invitational” (NHSI).  ESPN RISE’s NHSI will feature an eight boys team tournament and a four girls team tournament; games will be televised live on the ESPN family of networks: ESPN (1 game), ESPN2 (4 games) and ESPNU (6 games).  The event will take place April 3-5, 2009 at the Hanley Center at Georgetown Prep High School, Bethesda, Md.

2008 Iolani Classic Final Day

The 25th annual Iolani Classic wrapped up yesterday with two classic match-ups of traditional powers. In the title game Oak Hill Academy (VA) faced off against Montrose Christian (MD) with Oak Hill winning in double overtime 74-62. In the third place game Fairfax (CA) went up against LeFlore (AL) in a game that also went into overtime Fairfax won a close one 55-51.

2008 City of Palms Classic Final 4 Match-Ups

The 36th annual City of Palms Classic has made it down to the final four after the first 3 days of action. The teams that have advanced to the semi-finals include #1 Mater Dei (CA), # 4 St. Patrick (NJ), Wheeler (GA) and Winter Park (FL).

In game # 1 you have a battle of front courts when David & Travis Wear (Mater Dei, CA) go up against Ari Stewart and Richard Howell (Wheeler, GA). Mater Dei, CA is the # 1 team in the land, there starting five have all signed with a major division one school.

This day belonged to the young guns with huge performances by class of 2011 standouts Austin Rivers (Winter Park, FL) who had 30 points and 3 rebounds in a upset of Westchester, CA and Michael Gilchrist (St. Patrick, NJ) who totaled 30 points, 14 rebounds and 7 blocks in a easy win over Word of God, NC. Derick Gordan (St. Patrick, NJ) also from class of 2011 had a big night with 27 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals.
