California player named nation’s top high school performer

On Wednesday, Brandon Jennings received the Naismith National High School Player of the Year award. He helped his Oak Hill Academy team finish the season with a 34-4 record. On Saturday night Renardo Sidney took an unofficial visit to Arizona State for their game against California. Coach Herb Sendek has really shown a big interest in the junior from Fairfax High School in the recent weeks.
Renardo Sidney is considered the top prospect in the class of 2009 and has interest from almost every school in the country. The reports out of Tempe, AZ are that Sidney was very impressed with Arizona State on his visit. Freshmen guard James Harden was a teammate of Renardo Sidney last year at Artesia High School they are still pretty tight with each other.
He has seen Coach Ben Howland from UCLA start to show a lot of interest also in gaining his services. They will have to make up for some lost time since cross-town rival USC has had Renardo on their radar for some time now. He has no timetable for making a decision on his college choice. Only time will tell where he will end up playing in the future but there is no denying his tremendous talent.
Drew Gordon will miss the rest of the season with two broken bones in his left foot. Drew is headed to play at UCLA next year. He broke his foot in his first game back from being out from a foot injury to his right foot.
Derrick Favors vs. Jrue Holiday match-up @ Pangos Classic
On Saturday night at UCLA Derrick Favors and his South Atlanta (GA) team defeated a tough Campbell Hall (CA) team in double OT 78 to 77. Each of these players our elite prospects in their respected classes. Derrick Favors is a 6′9 (PF) in the class of 2009 ranked in the top 5 players in the class. Jrue Holiday is a 6′3 (CG) in the class of 2008 headed to UCLA next year and also ranked in the top 5.
They both lived up to their rankings in this great game. Derrick Favors finished with 32 points and 29 rebounds. Jrue Holiday totaled 35 points, 18 rebounds, 7 assists and 9 steals.
Reeves Nelson (Modesto Christian, CA) Picks the Bruins
On Wednesday night Reeves Nelson made his college decision picking the UCLA Bruins. He picked UCLA over Southern California, Duke, UNC and Arizona.
Reeves Nelson is a 6′7 combo forward who does most of his damage on the inside but has the ability to step out and hit the mid-range jumper. He is a top 35 player in the class of 2009. This was a huge get for UCLA who just missed out on landing the Wear twins also from California who picked UNC.
