Stephan Van Treese

We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Lawrence North High School’s powerhouse, Stephan Van Treese. Weighing in at 200lbs, Treese is a 6-foot-9 power forward headed to Louisville University next year. Van Treese has outstanding athleticism, which will help him tremendously in Pitino’s up-tempo system.

We wanted to see what goes on in his head from day to day, being ranked one of the best/if not the best recruit in Indiana for the 2009 class. Besides basketball, what’s this kid do for fun? Find out after the BUMP!

Indiana HS Hoops: Van Treese (VT), what’s up? Anything new going on with you lately? Introduce yourself.

VT: Hi, my name is Stephan Van Treese. My nickname is VT. I’m usually down for whatever. More

Van Treese, a 6-9 post player, has been a two-year starter for the Wildcats.

He averaged 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds as a junior.

“I’ve always like Louisville, the school and the coaching staff, obviously, with coach (Rick) Pitino,” Van Treese said this afternoon.

Van Treese had made several unofficial visits to various schools, including to Indiana University’s Midnight Madness.

He said he was considering “Notre Dame, Michigan State, IU, UCLA and Kansas the hardest toward the end.”

Van Treese said Pitino sold him on how he would fit into the Louisville system.

“I think it’s a good fit,” Lawrence North coach Jack Keefer said. “Stephan is an outstanding athlete to be 6-9. He can run the floor probably better than anybody we’ve ever had.

“He’s a quick jumper, very athletic, and he plays very hard. Anywhere Pitino has been, his players play hard. That’s something he puts on his players, whether it’s the little guys or the big guys.”
