John Carroll (MD) 85 vs. St. Mary’s (MD) 72

This was the first game of the Charm City Classic on Saturday at Loyola College, MD. This matched up one of the preseason top 25 teams in the country in John Carroll and St. Mary’s a young but talented team. This game was very close from the start with St. Mary’s jumping out to a lead early but John Carroll fought back to tie the game up 22 to 22 at the end of the quarter. John Carroll was definitely a bigger team but St. Mary’s used their quickness to blow by them repeatedly. The 2nd quarter was the same as the 1st both teams fought back from each other’s runs to go into the half tied 37 to 37. In the 1st half St. Mary’s was able to keep John Carroll leading scorer Isaiah Philmore in check.  St. Mary’s was led by Joshua Morgan-Green and Trey Quinn, Quinn was able to get by 7’4 Jakub Kusmeiruk anytime he wanted and Green used the fast break to get easy buckets. In the start of the 2nd half the game continued to be close with each team making runs. After being held in check during the 1st half Isaiah Philmore began to insert himself on both ends of the floor. The quarter ended with the score all squared up at 57 to 57. The 4th quarter saw John Carroll pull away in the final 3 minutes to seal a hard fought victory over St. Mary’s, 85 to 72. The game MVP awards went to Isaiah Philmore (09) from John Carroll who finished with 25 points and Joshua Morgan-Green (08) of St. Mary’s who totaled 27 points. Other players who stood out during this game were Trey Quinn (08) and Marcus Snipes (09) of St. Mary’s, Josh Wiegand (08) of John Carroll.
