Game 4 – Hales Franciscan (Ill) vs. Charlotte (FL) 81 to 53

This game was a matchup of a very talented team from Illinois taking on another Florida team. The Hales Franciscan team from Illinois has two seniors who have signed with the University of Oregon to play next year in the Pac-10.

Hales Franciscan came out of the gates quickly using a pressure defense to dictate the pace of the game from the beginning. They used the pressure to help themselves to a 10 point 1st quarter lead going into the 2nd quarter.

The 2nd quarter was a lot closer with Charlotte cutting into the lead only to see Hales Franciscan answer back. Hales Franciscan took a 13 point lead into half time with a score of 40 to 27.

The leaders in the half were Matthew Humphrey and D.J. Cooper for Hales Franciscan with had 10 and 9 points respectively. Chris Stephenson and Dago Pena led Charlotte in the 1st half with 10 and 9 points respectively also.

In the 3rd quarter Hales Franciscan use a big run to break the game wide open and never look back. They outscored Charlotte 23 to 7 in the 3rd quarter leaving the 4th quarter for the backups to get a chance to play.

The 4th quarter saw the team’s trade basket back and forth till the outcome was decided. In the end Hales Franciscan were just too quick and skilled for Charlotte to compete with in the blowout victory 81 to 53.

The stat sheet fillers for Hales Franciscan were a balanced attack of Matthew Humphrey finished with 22 points on 9-17 shooting, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, D.J. Cooper who had 13 points on 5-8 shooting, 9 rebounds and 4 assists along with Phillip Williams who had 13 points on 6-10 shooting.

Once again Charlotte was led by their senior standouts Chris Stephenson with 17 points on 7-18 shooting and 4 rebounds and Dago Pena who totaled 13 points on 6-14 shooting and 9 rebounds. They didn’t receive much help from their teammates on the offensive end.
