Preview of Primetime Shootout @ Villanova (The Pavilion) on February 1, 2008

Each year the group at Primetime Shootout puts on a great event with a ton of top ranked teams and individuals. This event at Villanova on the 1st of February is no different with the final two games of the night being the headliners of the event.

This event will include three nationally ranked teams in St. Benedict’s (NJ) # 3 and Chester (PA) # 8. Along with American Christian (PA) who is ranked # 3 for Prep Schools.

Some of the top individual talent at this event includes Tyreke Evans (AC, PA), Lamont Jones (ACA, PA), Karon Burton (Chester, PA), Nasir Robinson (Chester, PA), Terrelle Pryor (Jeannette, PA), Samardo Samuels (St. Benedict’s, NJ), Greg Echenique (St. Benedict’s, NJ), Tamir Jackson (St. Benedict’s, NJ) and Tristan Thompson (St. Benedict’s, NJ).

Terrelle Pryor (Jeannette, PA) is the # 1 football recruit in the class of 2008 and also a top 75 basketball player but will focus on football only in college. He has narrowed his list down to Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, Florida and Oregon. He will sign on National signing day in February.

Tyreke Evans (AC, PA) is the # 1 (SG) in the class of 2008. He is down to five schools Villanova, Memphis, Louisville, Seton Hall and Texas. He is the top rated uncommitted player in the class of 2008.

Nasir Robinson (Chester, PA) is committed to play at Pittsburgh next year. He is a solid player that you know what you are going to get from him every night. He is a strong 6’5 (SF) finishes strong around the rim and is also big on the boards.

Karon Burton (Chester, PA) is an unsigned (PG) in the class of 2008. He is an ultra quick guard who is a good finisher on the inside. He is also able to hit the big shot when needed or make a play to help his team to victory.

Samardo Samuels (St. Benedict’s, NJ) is committed to Louisville. He is a man amongst boys this season having already picked up MVP honors at City of Palms Classic, Bojangles Shootout and HoopHall Classic. He is great on the boards and uses his wide frame to seal defenders on his back in the post to finish easily inside.

Greg Echenique (St. Benedict’s, NJ) is a top 50 player in the class of 2009. He is a very strong young man who is able to finish on the inside and is great on the boards. He and Samardo make up one of the biggest and toughest front courts in the country. He is continuing to seem more agile each time I see him play. He is also an excellent student that is being recruited by some major programs along with some Ivy League schools. He lists UPenn, Duke, Miami, Maryland, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Memphis and Pittsburgh.

Tristan Thompson (St. Benedict’s, NJ) is a top 25 player in the class of 2010. He just arrived at St. Benedict’s this year from Canada. He has a ton of upside and continues to improve his game each time I have seen him play this season. He has a long frame and works really hard well on the floor and is good on the boards. He is already hearing from the major programs in the country with everyone just waiting to see him put all of his talent together in the coming years.
