36th_v3This day belonged to the young guns with huge performances by class of 2011 standouts Austin Rivers (Winter Park, FL) who had 30 points and 3 rebounds in a upset of Westchester, CA and Michael Gilchrist (St. Patrick, NJ) who totaled 30 points, 14 rebounds and 7 blocks in a easy win over Word of God, NC. Derick Gordan (St. Patrick, NJ) also from class of 2011 had a big night with 27 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals.

For the second day in a row Winter Park, FL has upset a nationally ranked team yesterday it was Duncanville, TX today’s victim Westchester, CA. These two victories have earned them a place in the final four and made them the Cinderella team of the tournament. They will face St. Patrick, NJ in the semi-finals on Monday night.

The other semi-final will be Mater Dei (CA) who slipped past Roman Catholic (PA) 72-70 in the best game of the tournament yet and Wheeler (GA) who blew by Lincoln (NY) 101-84. The Dexter Strickland vs. Austin Rivers match-up should be huge and Michael Gilchrist should continue his strong play. Mater Dei (CA) will get another tough game from a balanced attack that Wheeler (GA) has.

Game # 1 – Duncanville (TX) vs. Briarcrest (TN) 63 to 50

Leading Scorers: Duncanville got solid play from Roger Franklin 23 points and Shawn Williams 18 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Briarcrest stud Leslie McDonald started slow and finished with 16 points and 5 rebounds in the loss. Johnny Williams added 17 points and 5 rebounds and Gregg Wooten finished with 15 points and 3 assists in defeat.

Game # 2 – Olympia (FL) vs. Fayette County (GA) 68 to 50

Leading Scorers: Olympia received big-time games from William Green who had 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 blocks, Sherwood Brown totaled 17 points and 5 rebounds, Martell Buie 8 points and 11 assists and Jordan McCoy chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds in the win. Fayette County got a double-double from Noel Johnson who had 18 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. Malcolm Brogdon added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the loss.

Game # 3 – Winter Park (FL) vs. Westchester (CA) 60 to 54

Leading Scorers: Austin Rivers (Winter Park, FL) the super sophomore had another big game finishing with a game high 30 points which 18 of them came in the 4th quarter to help seal the win for his team. Robert Lovaglio added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Jordin Mayes (Westchester, CA) led the comets totaling 20 points and raw sophomore Dwayne Polee added 7 points and 6 rebounds.

Game # 4 – St. Patrick (NJ) vs. Word of God (NC) 77 to 69

Leading Scorers: Sophomores Michael Gilchrist and Derrick Gordon led St. Patrick, NJ with 30 points, 14 rebounds and 7 blocks, 27 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. John Wall led Word of God, NC with 21 points but was held without an assist and C.J. Leslie chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

Game # 5 – Montverde Academy (FL) vs. Zion Lutheran (FL) 72 to 53

Leading Scorers: James Bell the Villanova commit led Montverde, FL with a game high 34 points and Justin Jackson added 22 points in the blowout. David Joseph led Zion with 20 points and Renaldo Dixon contributed 18 points in the loss.

Game # 6 – Wheeler (GA) vs. Lincoln (NY) 101 to 84

Leading Scorers: Wheeler got a balanced performance across the board led by (PG) Phil Taylor with 26 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals, Ari Stewart added 25 points and 8 rebounds, Tahj Tate chipped in 24 points and Richard Howell controlled the paint with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Lance Stephenson (Lincoln, NY) did all he could to fight back and keep his team close after missing the entire second period with two fouls, he finished with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists well being double teamed most of the night.

Game # 7 – Mater Dei (CA) vs. Roman Catholic (PA) 72 to 70

Leading Scorers: In the game of the tournament so far Mater Dei (CA) the # 1 team in the land was able to survive a scare from the scrappy team out of Philadelphia. David Wear led the monarchs with 18 points and 8 rebounds, Tyler Lamb filled the stat line with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks and 2 assists, Andy Brown who has a very high basketball I.Q. totaled 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the win. Class of 2010 guard Rakeem Brookins led Roman Catholic again finishing with a game high 27 points, 4 steals and 3 rebounds also contributing was stud guard Maalik Wayns who continues to struggle with his jumper but keeps on pushing this week ended with 20 points, 9 assists and 4 rebounds in the loss.
