North Carolina Adidas Junior Phenom 150 Camp

Forsyth Country Day School

Lewisville, NC

October 24, 2009

This past weekend I traveled down to beautiful North Carolina to check out the Adidas 150 Phenom Camp. There was a nice amount of talent scattered throughout the different gyms on Forsyth Country Day School campus. The event was very well organized and ran on-time which is always a great plus when going and covering these type of events.

I posted a short video highlight of some of the action on my youtube page called Premo Hoops. This is the link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37yipdjj2HE.

Some of the top talent in this event included:

Will Saunders (NW Guilford HS, NC) 6’4 (SG) Class of 2010

Saunders was a very impressive athlete at this event using his athleticism to score a ton of buckets. He consistently scores on high flying dunks throughout the showcase along with a smooth looking jumper out beyond the arc. He plays with a ton of energy on both ends of the floor, well also doing a good job on the boards.

Andrew White (Thomas Dale HS, VA) 6’5 (SG) Class of 2011

White is a very long athletic combo between shooting guard and wing. He is a big time leaper and shot blocker. He also scores in many different ways from a smooth mid-range jumper to in the post with his back to the basket. White is also very aggressive on the boards and sees the floor well. He is a little under the radar right now as national recruitment stands but look for him to blow up in the near future. More

John Wall (Word of God Christian Academy, NC) Sets-Up Visits

John Wall the # 1 (PG) in the country has just finished up a very successful summer on the AAU circuit and has now decided to focus on recruiting setting up his official visits.

In the next couple of weeks he will visit Memphis, Kansas and Oregon on official visits with Kentucky and Baylor to setup dates in the near future. There are also a few schools who will receive un-official visits from Wall, which include N.C. State and Oklahoma State.

According to Wall’s travel team coach Brian Clifton of D-One Sports, a Sept. 12 official visit to Memphis is first on the docket followed by a Sept. 19 trip to Kansas. Then Wall will travel to Oregon on Oct. 3 and likely will be at Kentucky one week later. A date has not yet been set for the final official visit to Baylor.

After Baylor went out and hired Dwon Clifton the brother of Brian Clifton and AAU coach of John Wall everyone assumed that a verbal commitment to Baylor would follow quickly after. That has not been the case in the weeks after the hire. Only time will tell where he will end up playing his college basketball next season.

Reggie Bullock (Kinston, NC) Says Yes to UNC

On Tuesday Reggie Bullock accepted a scholarship to play for instate powerhouse UNC. He picked UNC over Wake Forest, Indiana and others.

Reggie Bullock is a 6’6 wing player with a ton of athletic ability to his game. He is one of the best shooters in the class of 2010. He is also ranked in the top 30 players in the class of 2010. He has the ability to finish strong when filling the lanes on the break.

This now gives UNC four commitments in the last week to continue the tradition of excellence. Reggie Bullock joins John Henson, David Wear and Travis Wear as the other recent commits. It didn’t take long for Reggie to realize that UNC was the place for him. Roy Williams offered him the scholarship on January 2, 2008.

(Class of 2009) Wear Twins Commit to UNC

Travis Wear   David Wear

Travis & David Wear commit to University of North Carolina

On Friday the Wear twins committed to the University of North Carolina to play their college basketball. They picked UNC over Arizona and UCLA.

Travis & David our skilled 6’9 combo forwards who have a nice feel for the game. They have the ability to step outside and knock down the 3 or go inside and score with an array of moves. Each of them has a huge upside to their game.

This makes the 3rd commitment for UNC in this week, on Thursday 6’10 John Henson from Texas committed. The tar heels are starting fast on the class of 2009 and still have a handful of elite players in the class with UNC on their short list. Look for the commitments to continue to roll in for UNC in the upcoming months.
