Derrick Favors

On Wednesday, Derrick Favors a 6’9/225 power forward from (South Atlanta, GA) announced he will be attending Georgia Tech. He picked the Yellow Jackets over N.C. State and Georgia.

Derrick Favors who is a consensus top five prospect will be a impact player for Georgia Tech next season in the ACC. Coach Paul Hewitt now has very impressive incoming class for next year.

Derrick Favors joins Mfon Udofia (Miller Grove, GA), Brian Oliver (William Penn, DE), Glen Rice JR. (Walton, GA) and Kammeon Holsey (Hancock Central, GA) for the recruiting class of 2009.

Derrick Favors is a prospect with a high upside to his game. He has the ability to finish on the inside with either hand along with being a great rebounder on both ends of the floor. He runs the floor very well for a player his size and is capable of stepping outside and knocking down the jumper if you double team him. He is very active on the inside on both ends of the floor being able to alter or block any shot put up by his opponents on the inside. He has a motor that never stops and has started to add even more range on his jumper stepping out and knocking down the 3 more consistently.

SNY Invitational

Four of New York’s Top High School Teams to Compete
[New York] January 8, 2009 – SNY, the television home of the New York Mets, Jets and BIG EAST Conference, today announced that the 2009 SNY Invitational presented by Time Warner Cable will tip off January 23-24 at 6pm and showcase four of the top ranked high school teams in New York.  The teams include Jefferson, Mount Vernon, St. Raymond and Boys and Girls High School. All games will be broadcast live on SNY and feature SNY commentator Kevin Burkhardt calling all the action alongside SNY’s BIG EAST basketball analyst Tim Welsh.  Brian Custer, host of the WheelHouse on SNY, will handle the sideline duties.

The SNY Invitational presented by Time Warner Cable was established in January 2008 with the goal of creating an annual high school basketball tournament that will be both a pillar of SNY’s involvement in the community, as well as New York’s elite high school basketball event. Throughout the two-day tournament, SNY will provide exposure to the schools and students by televising the games, as well as producing multiple vignettes and human interest pieces about the individual schools and their teams.  In addition, SNY and Time Warner Cable’s NYC Region will make a donation totaling $20,000 to the participating schools.
“While the inaugural SNY Invitational exceeded our expectations, this year’s event is shaping up to be even more exciting as we aim to set a new benchmark for high school athletic events in New York,” said Steve Raab, President of SNY.  “We’re honored to give back to these communities and showcase the participating high schools and their athletes.” More
